Jordin Sparks launches BECAUSE OF YOU fragrance

Jordin is featured in the new issue of WWD and talks about the fragrance. Don’t worry, you won’t have to spend a lot to smell great. She shared, “When I was starting this project, I really wanted it to be affordable. I looked at some other celebrity fragrances, and they were like $80. Even now, I look at a fragrance that’s $80, and I can’t bring myself to spend that much.”

Because of You will be introduced at $9.50 for a 2.5-oz. bottle. The price will rise to $14.95 on Nov. 1.

“In this economy especially, my fans deserve a high-quality, reasonably priced scent,” she said. And what is the meaning behind the name of the fragrance? “My fans are the reason that I get to do any of this,” she said of the fragrance, her current role in Broadway’s “In the Heights” and the fashion line she did with Wet Seal, to name a few.

So what exactly does Because of You smell like? The fragrance was concocted by Belmay Fragrances and has top notes of clementine, white imperial currant and orange blossom; a heart of nectarine, sharry baby orchid and coral charm peony, and a drydown of sheer musks, vanilla bean, Baltic amber and blond woods. “I wanted it to transfer easily from day to night,” Sparks said, “so we needed a little darkness [from the musks and amber] in there. It starts out as a day fragrance and then becomes a night fragrance.”

Because of You will launch first at Dots, a fast-fashion, women’s specialty apparel and accessories store, and on dots.com. In November, the fragrance will be available in other stores like Target.

Jordin Sparks “My dogs help me relax”

Jordin Sparks is getting adjusted to life in NYC. She celebrated her opening night in Broadway’s In The Heights Tuesday.

Her pup, Miles, joins her in her Big Apple apartment while “tour dog” Maggie and lab Noni relax with her mom in Arizona.

“He’s doing well,” Jordin, 20, tells me during the Celebrity Pet Products showcase. “He’s young, nine months, and he’s getting used to meeting new dogs. People walk their dogs everywhere, so he’s making a lot of new friends.”

The American Idol champ took in shows during Fashion Week.

“I’m excited to be on my own and try new things, meet new friends and start this new chapter. I’m definitely excited for whatever comes my way.”

Idol-turned-Broadway pals Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young helped her adjust to life in the big city by recommending an apartment.

“It’s actually worked out really good,” she says.

Hm, what advice did they give her about life on Broadway?

“They said it’s definitely going to be different because of how many shows you do, but they said it’s a lot of fun, and it’s nice being able to do something continuously and have a normal schedule,” she says. “I’m excited to see how it goes. I’m sure everybody experiences different things, but I’m excited to see what happens.”

Jordin is grateful to have Miles along for the ride.

“Animals have always helped calm me down and helped relax me,” she says while holding the schnoodle. “They’re great to have. They’ve definitely become … I don’t have kids, but that’s the love that you feel. You’re so attached to them, and you want to be with them all the time. Yeah, I do talk to him sometimes, but it’s nice. He’s so cute. [baby talks] Yes you are. I know, I love you. [ends baby talk].”

Jordin-usa-today

Jordin Sparks is ready to shine in her Broadway debut in In the Heights on Thursday evening. In the musical, Jordin plays “Nina,” a young woman who is back from her first year at college. She explains, “Things didn’t go as well as she had thought they were going to. She is the girl who always did everything perfect. And now she has to tell them what happened.”

We all know Jordin is an amazing singer, but was she nervous about stepping into acting? “In the acting I’ve done so far, I just played myself,” says Sparks, who has appeared on “The Suite Life on Deck” and “Big Time Rush.” And what about all the dancing? “There’s this club scene where I have to do this salsa move. I’m naturally clumsy, so I’ve been falling all over myself trying to get it right.”

Jordin first saw In the Heights earlier this year and fell in love with the musical. “They gave me the (cast recording), and I didn’t stop listening to it. So I reached out to them, saying, ‘Look, even if nothing happens, thank you so much for the great music.’ A week later, I had the offer.”

Jordin will be making her debut at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Thursday, August 19. For more on Jordin in USA Today, check out the rest of the article here and here or on newsstands tomorrow.

Congratulations to Nick Jonas and Jordin Sparks!

The duo have been named co-chairs of The National Youth Leadership Committee of the Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration. The committee includes athletes, entertainers and student leaders who are under age 25. They have been inspired in a personal way by Reagan’s vision and the committee will honor Reagan’s 100th birthday Feb. 6.

Both Nick and Jordin say they developed an admiration for Reagan after hearing their parents talk about him at the dinner table.

Sounds exciting!

Jordin Sparks has admitted that appearing on the Broadway show In The Heights wasn’t planned.

The former American Idol winner, who announced that she would be joining the cast of the New York show in May, has revealed that although it was unexpected, she’s looking forward to taking on the challenge of acting on stage.

The 20-year-old told Beatweek: “I went and took a meeting, they gave me the soundtrack, they said ‘Hey, you should go see the show’. So I went that night and saw the show and I absolutely fell head over heels in love with it, and went home and started listening to the music.

“I hadn’t heard from them in a while, so I reached out and said if nothing else happens, thank you so much for the great music. And a week later I had the offer in my mailbox. I’m so excited. I’m going to be playing one of the lead roles, and I’ve just always wanted to do it.”

Sparks added: “It wasn’t on the agenda, it wasn’t planned, it kind of just fell into my lap, but I definitely want to do it and I’m so, so excited to take on this new challenge.”
