Disney Channel’s newest original series, “Shake It Up,” had a big night on Sunday.

The show, which stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya, averaged 6.2 Million viewers for its premiere, making it the channel’s 2nd-most-watched series debut overall among Total Viewers (6.2 million) and Tweens 9-14 (2.7 million/11.0 rating) and its No. 1 Sunday premiere on record in Total Viewers, Kids 6-11 (2.6 million/10.6 rating) and Tweens 9-14.

Having “Hannah Montana” as its lead in might have also helped. The hour-long episode of “Hannah Montana” delivered season highs across all target demos, becoming the series’ most-watched telecast in more than 3 years among Total Viewers (7.1 million), Kids 6-11 (2.6 million/10.6 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (2.8 million/11.3 rating) – since the post-“High School Musical” telecast on 8/17/07.

Sunday’s all-new one-hour episode became the show’s 3rd-most-watched telecast of all time in Total Viewers, and 4th-most-watched ever in Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14.

We’ve been waiting for months for the premiere of the new Disney Channel show Shake it Up and it’s finally here! Shake it Up is about two best friends, played by Bella Thorne and Zendaya Coleman. M got a chance to sit down with the two girls and they told us about the show!

Zendaya said, “It’s a funny comedy about two girls who love to dance and they dream to become professional dancers. They finally get the opportunity when they become contestants for their favorite dance show. So it’s about their adventures on the show and at school and balancing friendship and everything like that.”

Sounds pretty fun. And the theme song for the show is sung by Selena Gomez! How cool! You can catch the episode tonight at 8:30/7:30c.
